One of my friends requested GCMS notes through me, and with his consent I am sharing information timelines so that it could help people in the same boat. Patience is what it is required.
Timeline:
05/18/2020 - Application submitted, e-AOR recieved same date
07/14/2020 - Medicals passed - initial check done (degree, English language), moved forward to get background check papers verified and job verification.
07/14/2020 - Biometrics Invitation letter issued
08/12/2020 - Eligibility Passed - Confirmed that work experience and everything was genuine. They were able to verify based on contact details provided that it was correct. Waiting to here back on background check confirmations.
09/12/2020 - Background check passed (Singapore and India), awaiting biometrics.
09/26/2020 - Biometrics done (previously had a visitor visa, so done). Application approved (CoPR yet to be issued because of closure of local VAC)
Takeaways
  1. IRCC is doing its best. The more information you provide for job verification, the faster your eligibility check gets done.
  2. Lack of Biometrics is not holding the application. Things are getting processed parallel. However, if you dont have biometrics, they cannot approve you in principle. *I have heard inland cases where they get CoPR literally 24 hrs after getting their biometrics complete.
  3. A good chunk of verifying your background check lies in the hands of your home country or country of past residence - IRCC cannot do anything to speed that up.
  4. Canada has closed its borders right now, so its a different department that's holding applications before the final issuance of visa.
  5. This timeline indicates that IRCC is continuing to process most of their applications within their specified timeframe, however external factors out of their hands are leading to lack of CoPR confirmations
  6. They are not updating the timeline on the application tracker - not sure why but maybe to keep people from pinging them? Speculation it is.

A new generation of gaming is nearly upon us, and for those us who aren't PC gamers, that means weighty decisions about which machine to pick as our primary gaming rig for the next six or seven years. Now that we know pretty much everything about the Xbox and PlayStation, let's compare the two to try and discern which console would offer you the best gaming experience and value. I'll do the Xbox first because the difference between the two consoles is larger than with PlayStation.

PS5 vs Xbox - Hardware

The Xbox brand has come a long way in the past seven years. The release of the Xbox One was disastrous, plagued by always online, intrusive DRM, high pricing because of Kinect, and a bunch of other silly decisions from clueless execs who were completely out of touch which what gamers wanted. But ever since MS fired Don Mattrick and replaced him with Phil Spencer as the head of the Xbox division, Phil has slowly turned things around, coming up with many new innovations in an effort to get the xbox back up to competing with the big boys.
Their hardware team too went from creating a prohibitively priced but technically weak console, to the most powerful console of this generation. For next gen, they've gone with an even more ambitious vision, creating two consoles at different price points targeting different output resolutions, but hoping to achieve the same level of performance. That's quite the goal! Let's check out the specs.

Whoo! These are quite beefy machines. The current generation of consoles were actually quite dated even for their time. Not so this time around, these consoles are high end gaming rigs, with the Series X even beating most PC's that took the Steam hardware survey.
Before we go any further though, let's untangle this alphabet soup of tech specs and try and translate it into something readable(tech geeks bear with me, there's a lot of oversimplification here, I know!)
SMT - Stands for Simultaneous MultiThreading. Simultaneous multithreading allows different processes to utilize the same core, allowing for greater efficiency. Basically, a CPU core that could normally only do one thing at a time now spends less time sitting idle, as it works other things while waiting for instructions to finish processing. Sometimes this means way better performance when code is specifically optimized for it, other times it doesn't really matter because code has to wait on a previous operation to finish before starting a new one.
Teraflops - Short for Trillion Floating Point Operations per Second. A floating point operation is basically a standard arithmetic operation(multiplication, division etc) involving decimal numbers(floating points). So the 4 Teraflop Series S GPU, for instance, can do 4 trillion of these a second. Phew!
PCiE/NVMe - Short for Peripheral Component Interconnect Express, PCIe is just a connector standard that transfers data across components. These connectors have various lanes of traffic, so the more lanes a component utilizes, the faster information will flow, like on a road or highway. NVMe(Nonvolatile Memory Express) drives use more lanes than SATA drives probably used by your computer, which means way faster speeds. It's planning a road layout and choosing to use a highway instead of a normal road to make things faster.
Xbox Velocity Architecture - Fancy marketing term for a collection of technologies that aim to increase rendering and texture streaming efficiency i.e squeeze as much juice out of the hardware as possible. It incudes stuff like Sampler Feedback Streaming(tech that allows the hardware to load only the mipmaps that are necessary, reducing I/O because less data has to be sent to RAM to load a frame), improvements to DX, and of course a fast SSD(although less powerful than the one on the PS5). It also enables stuff like Quick Resume.
So what does this all mean for gaming? Well, the Xbox Series X is a way more powerful machine across the board, aimed at hitting a higher performance target. It needs higher specs because it's outputting 4K images as opposed to a target of 1440p on the Series S. Microsoft says the Series S specs have been neatly scaled so the only difference between the two consoles is resolution. Don't take them at their word though, there are bound to be other small differences , resolution will just be the biggest differentiator. So that means both consoles are equipped with technologies like Raytracing, Variable Rate Shading, Sampler Feedback Streaming, all that good next-gen stuff.
But wait...
What the F is Ray Tracing?!
Arguably the defining feature of Next-Generation graphics, Ray tracing is a radical new way to render realistic graphics on-screen. In order to understand how it works, let's think a bit about how graphics are rendered.
The real world is complicated. Very complicated. Trying to recreate that in a game requires the use of various algorithms to simulate various parts of the real world, like a physics engine to handle various forces and collisions, a shadow and reflection maps to handle shadows and reflections, a light map to handle the lighting of a scene, and of course a virtual camera viewport to simulate your eyes. There are a ton of things game developers do to try and recreate the real world as accurately as possible with the processing power available to them, and you can see them if you've ever opened up a game graphics menu where it allows you to toggle certain settings, or 'tricks' on or off, that were developed to make scenes look more realistic.
So where does ray tracing come in? Well, Raytracing is meant to replace 'fake' methods of rendering stuff like lighting and shadows by attempting to realistically simulate the way lighting and shadows actually work in the real world. If you've ever taken a high school physics class, you'll know that light travels in the form of rays - reflecting, refracting, getting absorbed etc ad infinitum. Ray tracing is the process by which computers attempt to simulate this in an effort to make scenes look more realistic than what can be achieved by artificial tricks.

Wow! Quite the quantum jump there, right? While minecraft's graphics were never technically very impressive, with raytracing everything looks so much nicer. Water actually looks like water and not blue lines, dark caves actually look dark and not just black, lava actually behaves like lava instead of looking like someone spilled some red paint on a light source, everything just looks that much more realistic.
It's achieved by each pixel, both inside and outside the scene(traditional rendering methods typically only consider pixels inside the scene for lighting and shadows) casting off a ray of light, the path of which is then traced around the scene until it hits a light source or an artificial limit. This eliminates the need for manually providing lightmaps or reflection details, because those can be simulated in real time and look even better. As you can imagine, it's very computationally intensive, which is why we haven't really see it go mainstream in gaming until now. Even with the monsters that are this-gen consoles, they probably won't be able to hit their performance targets with full RT. From what we can see so far, the Xbox Series X will likely run at 4k30 with RT, and the Series S will run at 1080p30 with RT.
Alright that's enough about Raytracing for now, back to the console comparison.
Some quick FAQs
  1. Is there any benefit to getting the Series X if I don't have a 4k TV? - Yes, but probably not a 15k difference. The Series X will still be processing higher resolution textures and might even give you better framerates in games, but the primary reason to get a Series X over the S if you don't have a 4k TV will probably just be to future-proof yourself in case you ever do decide to buy one in the future
  2. Why would I need Quick Resume? - A strange question, but one I have nevertheless seen asked a fair number of times. To clarify, you don't really 'use' quick resume as you benefit from it. Just opening a game will take you right back to the state it was in when you last closed it, so you don't need to sit through loading screens, menus, or studio logos to get in the game. It also persists across cold boots.
  3. What are the PC equivalents to the Xbox Series X specs? - The Series X GPU lies somewhere between the RTX 2080 Super and the RTX 2080 ti as far as raw performance is concerned. As for the CPU, the closest PC equivalent would probably be the AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, or a less than an Intel i7 9700k.
PS5
Arguably the more highly anticipated console, the PS5 succeeds the PS4, which absolutely crushed the Xbox One this generation in terms of sales and games. Fueled by phenomenal exclusives like God of War, Spiderman, Bloodborne, TLOU2 etc, the PS4 juggernaut's got quite a bit of momentum going into this generation. Sadly as we all know, it hit a bit of a legal hiccup coming to India so it'll be delayed. We also don't know as much about it as we do the Xbox because Sony hasn't actually sent out any units to Influencers/Reviewers yet, so all we have to go on are the specs, demos, and teardowns that Sony themselves have provided.
This generation, Sony's offering two variants of the PS5, but in contrast to Microsoft's strategy, both their consoles are equally powerful and offer basically the same gaming experience, the only difference being that one plays discs while the other doesn't. The price difference between the two consoles is also 10k as opposed to 15k with the Xbox.
Because the consoles share identical specs, I won't be comparing them with each other. Instead, let's compare them to the Xboxes. Here's the same table again, except with PS5 in the middle this time.

On paper, the Xbox Series X is the most powerful console, then the PlayStations, with the Series S coming in at a distant third. The Series X has a slightly faster CPU, a significantly faster GPU, and slightly faster RAM than the PS5. Meanwhile, the PS5 has the edge in I/O throughput, which is about twice as fast as that on the Series X when it comes to raw numbers.
What do these numbers actually mean for games? Well, we just don't know yet, because multiplats have yet to be benchmarked on the PS5. Sony seems to be playing their cards close to the vest, and haven't given their hardware to any reviewers to try. It's a safe guess to say that games will probably look slightly better on the Series X with maybe slightly better performance, but the difference is unlikely to be significant and probably won't matter to most casual gamers. Meanwhile, the difference in I/O throughput could mean that the PS5 will possibly load worlds and start up games faster than the Series X. It will probably be most noticeable in exclusive first party titles that are coded to specifically take advantage of the SSD.
Let's discuss hardware value by price. When it comes to price, the best value hardware wise is clearly the PS5 DE. For merely 5k more than the Series S you're getting 3-4x the processing power. If you have a 4k TV at home, it's probably not worth considering the Series S, just the PS5 and the Series X. Maybe when the Series S is more reasonably priced in India according to the $1 = ₹100 rule it could be a contender, but as of now, it's my personal opinion that the Series S is just not good value in India for those who have a 4K TV at home and the budget to afford one.
But of course there's more to a system than just hardware. Now that we've drawn up some specs comparisons, let's get down to the software side.

PS5 vs Xbox- Software

For most gamers, this will be the real meat of the comparison. The power differences between the PS5 and the Xbox Series X are probably not significant enough on their own to decide a purchase, so for most casual gamers, software is what will decide it.
Xbox
By far the biggest difference software side on the Xbox is Xbox Game Pass. Love or hate Xbox, you can't deny that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is quite simply the best value in gaming right now. Following this guide from the subreddit , you can get 3 years of it for as low as ₹7500. In case you've been living under a rock, here's what you get with Xbox Game Pass.
  1. Xbox Live Gold (Multiplayer and Games with Gold)
  2. Access to a growing and rotating library of ~350 games(as part of PC+Console. Console only - ~250 Games)
  3. Perks - This can sometimes include cool stuff like the presently included 3 months of Discord Nitro, but so far for the most part I've not found it to be of too much use unless you play a lot of free to play games like World of Tanks or Warframe.
  4. xCloud - Not really relevant in India right now, but if you go the 3 years of gamepass route it might be a nice bonus down the line. It's possible to access xCloud right now with a VPN, but it's not a great experience.
  5. EA Play - Game Pass will also soon include access to EA Play, the basic tier of their subscription service, including very popular games like FIFA, Battlefield, Sims, etc. It also includes trials of the latest EA games.
  6. A 20% Discount on buying the games included in Game Pass, if you decide to buy them to keep.
It's also worth noting that all future Xbox Games Studios games will land on Xbox Game Pass Day 1, which is a really good value considering that Xbox now has 23 studios making games. While most of them are a ways off, it looks like a good lineup, especially if you're into RPG's.
Game Pass is pretty much the USP of the Xbox right now. For gamers on limited budgets, it's just tremendous value. For ₹700 per month(It's regionally priced too!), you get to play way more games and have much more fun with your console than you could have had without the service. For many, this could possibly be the decider.
The second big difference, of course, is in the exclusives. Here's what the upcoming Xbox exclusive lineup looks like -
  1. Halo Infinite
  2. Microsoft Flight Simulator
  3. Senua's Saga - Hellblade 2
  4. Avowed
  5. Fable
  6. Everwild
  7. Forza Motorsport
  8. Starfield
  9. The Elder Scrolls VI
It's also worth noting that all these games will still go on PC Game Pass Day 1. If you have a PC capable of running these games when they come out, then missing out on Xbox games shouldn't really be an issue or a deciding factor.
The third big difference is in backwards compatibility. The Series X and S will be compatible with every single Xbox One game, a lot of the most popular Xbox 360 games, and some of the most popular OG Xbox games. Here's the full list of 607 supported titles. It's great if you're already invested in the platform or are nostalgic for old titles like Burnout Revenge, Red Dead Redemption, Black Ops 2, Fallout New Vegas, etc. Probably won't be a big thing for most people, but for those it will help, it can make a purchase.
there's also a bunch of conveniences like quick resume and play anywhere. Quick Resume works like a save state where the console just loads back to where you last were when you quit the game instead of starting the game afresh. It works with multiple games at a time and persists even if you pull the plug on the Xbox. Play Anywhere works with some titles where your saves carry over from Xbox to PC. Nice to have, but not anything major.
Finally, an important note - unlike the PS5, even Free to Play games need a subscription to play online. So yeah, you can't play stuff like Fortnite or Warzone without a live gold or game pass ultimate subscription. If you spend a lot of time playing F2P games and can't afford game pass, this is a significant downside that might even be a dealbreaker, depending on how much time you spend playing F2P and how broke you are.
Quick FAQ's
Will future Bethesda Games be Xbox exclusive? - We still don't have definitive confirmation on whether future Bethesda titles will be exclusive, but it's highly likely that they will be, considering that Minecraft excluded, no other Microsoft first party studio currently develops games for other platforms. Phil Spencer also recently went on record to say that they're not worried about losing out on PS sales. Keep in mind that games like DOOM, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, will sell many Xboxes if they go exclusive. So while we can't claim anything definitively either way, don't buy a PS5 expecting to play these games for sure.
What's the best deal on Game Pass? - Currently it's the 3 year gold conversion deal. It probably won't last forever, so don't pass up the opportunity. Follow the guide linked above.
Are PC and Console Game Pass the same? - No. They are similar services but have different libraries. While all Xbox Games Studios games will release Day 1 on both platforms, major third party titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 are not likely to hit PC game pass.
PS5
Software wise, the biggest reason to buy the PS5 are for its exclusives. So far, PS4 exclusives blow Microsoft's out of the water. God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Spider-Man, The Last of Us, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bloodborne, time and again Sony has proven that they have some of the best studios out there. The PS5 will certainly have some spectacular games. Here's what the upcoming PS5 exclusive lineup looks like -
  1. Spider-Man : Miles Morales(Launch)
  2. Demon's Souls (Launch)
  3. God of War - Ragnarok
  4. Ratchet and Clank : A Rift Apart
  5. Gran Turismo 7
  6. Sackboy - A Big Adventure
  7. Godfall
  8. Final Fantasy 16 (timed)
  9. Deathloop, Ghostwire(timed)
The majority of these games will most likely only be playable on PlayStation i.e they won't be coming to PC, so that's another thing to keep in mind when deciding which system to buy. They'll all mostly be phenomenal games, Sony titles usually are, especially first party ones.
On the downside, great games can be quite expensive. As you've heard, Sony has confirmed that all PS5 first party exclusives will be 4999 going forward(no regional pricing). So if you care about playing Ratchet and Clank/God of WaGran Turismo at launch, be ready to shell out the cash. Personally I don't believe 5k for a single player game is worth it in India, but of course it depends on your personal finances.
To alleviate this somewhat we have PS Now and the PS Plus collection, Sony's answer to Game Pass. The PS Plus collection includes a lot of popular PS4 exclusives and some third party titles like Arkham Knight and Fallout 4. It's a really good deal if you're jumping into the PS ecosystem for the first time, but those who already own PS5's will probably already have played most of the games on there and will only benefit once they grow the service.
Sony also a bunch of conveniences in the UI like activites, which let you jump right into a certain part of the game. It's also rumored to have some sort of quick resume, but nothing's been confirmed in that regard yet.
As for Backwards Compatibility, Sony has confirmed that the PS5 will be BC with nearly all PS4 titles, but PS1,2,and 3 games will be left to history. Regrettable, but probably not a dealbreaker for most people.
So on the Sony side, we have some killer exclusives but not as much value with highly priced games and no game pass.

Verdict

So, for the most important question, which one do you get? Well, even after 21,000 words I won't really pretend to have an answer. There are too many variables to consider. How invested you are in a particular ecosystem, your personal financial situation, the type of games you like, etc. That said, I have some broad recommendations -
  1. If you have already have a 4k TV and have/plan to buy online - The PS5 DE is the way to go. The asinine pricing of the Series S in India makes this particular situation an easy call in my opinion. Yeah games will be expensive, but if you have the budget to buy a 4k TV maybe you can afford it. If not, you could always wait and pick up the games later when they go on sale. Kind of a bummer, but you'd still be playing on better hardware and actually putting your 4k TV to good use, instead of wasting its potential on the Series S. Maybe this will change if the Series S ever comes down in price, but for now this is the easiest reco to make.
  2. If you don't own a 4k TV and are strapped for cash(maybe you lost your job during rona), get the Series S. The Series S gets a lot of flak from hardcore gamers but IMO it is still a great gaming machine. for those upgrading from the Xbox One/One S/PS4/PS4 Slim it will still be a huge upgrade. Don't get carried away by 4k Marketing. 1440p gaming still looks great, and if the Series S can keep its promises of 1440p 60fps or even 1080p w/ Raytracing, games will look gorgeous and play great. Game Pass is also phenomenal value, and you get to play way more games for cheaper than on the PS4.
  3. If neither of these statements are close to your use case, don't consider the Series S or the PS5 DE. The PS5 DE might be a tempting buy for those who own discless collections and want to save money, but that would be a mistake. You're probably going to be playing on this console for at least 5-6 years, and are going to buy many games in that time. With PS5 games priced as highly as they are, you're almost certainly going to make up the difference and more buying expensive non-regionally priced games. The PS5 might cost more, but buying physical will save you a ton of money over digital purchases.
  4. XSX vs PS5 is kind of a toss-up. XSX is compact and more powerful and is overall better value with Game Pass, but doesn't have many next-gen games to play at launch(most Xbox heavy hitters are landing much later). Meanwhile the PS5 has Demon's Souls and Miles Morales which comes with Spider Man Remastered. Personally I would go with an XSX in this situation because it's better value and will probably have more exclusives down the line(I don't mind waiting), but if you're eager to get on the next-gen hype train as soon as possible or are already invested in the PS ecosystem/you just love PS games that much, the PS5 is also a pretty good purchase. Definitely the hardest call to make.
  5. If you are much into WRPGS, go with Xbox. Microsoft has a solid lock on western RPG's this generation, with titles like Fable, Avowed, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and Starfield. Given that Sony doesn't really make these sorts of games themselves and there aren't that many big WRPG devs left(CDPR and BioWare are pretty much the only ones I think?), you're better off going with Xbox if you're a fan of these sorts of games.

Closing Thoughts

Phew! This write-up turned out to be a lot longer than I had initially expected. It was quite a bit of work writing it, and I did quite a bit of research to ensure that it's as accurate as possible. I'm still human so I've probably made some mistakes still, so please feel free to correct me if you spot an error.
And of course, these are ultimately just my thoughts on the matter as someone who owns and plays on both consoles right now, as well as PC, and will probably end up getting both new consoles down the line. I've tried to keep this as unbiased as possible, but if you feel I've misrepresented something or left something out, do weigh in in the comments and help other people out.

Background: I'm a non US IMG studying in Chennai, India. I took my step 1 in 2018 when I was in my third year of MBBS, and I took my step 2 CK in my internship year. Because of the pandemic, half of the hospital services are shut down temporarily and I only have to report to work 3 times a week approximately, so I figured I'd use the extra time to study and clear my step 2 CK.

Studying process:
Uworld - I bought my uworld subscription in jan, but I only seriously started doing questions in april. I started with 4 blocks a day, and then I would review all the incorrect questions and read up on the associated topics from FirstAid/medbullets. I finished my first pass with a percentage of 65%, and reset it right at the beginning of my dedicated period.
My second pass was 80%, and i completed it 2.5 weeks before my exam date. I was essentially doing like 4/5 blocks per day and reviewing everything. I didn't make it through all of my incompletes before test day.
Flashcards -
Initially I was using only the zanki deck, but after reading other redditors' recommendations, I downloaded the tzanki deck as well as the Cheesy Dorian M3 deck. I set the limit to 50 cards a day, but I wasn't really regular with them. The last week of my dedicated period, I essentially put anki in "edit" mode and would scroll through as many flashcards as possible every day. (around 200+). I'm honestly not entirely sure if I even finished any of the decks.

I started using these videos according to their 8 week plan (available on their website), but I didn't watch all of them. I think i left out all of the ObGyn and Surgery videos. He talks really slowly so I watched the videos at 1.25x speed!

Divine Intervention podcast-
I discovered this podcast really late in the game, essentially 2 weeks out from my test date, so I only listened to the rapid review series for step 2 CK. I played them at 1.2x speed on spotify and would listen to them while running errands, going for walks etc. I find them SUPER SUPER helpful, so please listen to the rapid review series atleast, even if you cant integrate the podcasts fully into your study period.
Exam day -
I went early, said a prayer, and started answering questions lmao. I was honestly in autopilot mode the whole time, and I don't even remember any of the questions specifically. I do remember getting quite a few social science/ethics/drug study questions, so make sure you don't neglect these in your study period.
I packed yoghurt, nuts, apples, sandwiches and juice, but I had 0 appetite so I didn't eat much. I felt like the time was adequate, after a point I stopped looking at the clock because I knew I had quite a bit of time, since I skipped the tutorial and I finished all my blocks within 45 minutes.
My strategy for each block would be to answer all the questions, then go over all the questions again to make sure I didn't want to change my answers. I did the first 2 blocks back to back, and then I took a break of around 10 minutes between each block. After block 5, I forced myself to take a longer break of around 20 minutes so that I could relax a little bit and regain some mental stamina.
When I left the test centre, I definitely had mixed feelings about my performance, but I felt like I had a good chance of scoring around the 240s range. so I definitely exceeded my own expecations!
I know this was a super long post but I really wanted to share with everyone all of my knowledge, and hopefully some of you will find this helpful :)

Hi all, after using 5T since the release date(21st November 2017) I decided to finally upgrade to a new phone and as I live in India smartphones with SD865 are rare. I really wanted the S20+ but hesitated because of Exynos, so settled for 8Pro(pun not intended).
So it arrived yesterday, opened it up phone was kinda heavy (5T is too light). Booted it up added my google account and done,the screen absolutely mesmerized me. I saw the apps, there was some bloatware like Facebook services and red cable club(exclusive to India), got OOS 10.3.15 OTA update, updated it. No OTA for OOS11 and holding off until bugs are fixed as people are complaining.
Used adb to remove all bloat as well as YouTube and YouTube music(I use vanced)
Starting with the screen as everyone like me wants to ask questions about the screen and I was worried that I would get a bad screen. My screen has no tint, no black crush or status bar or fingerprint sensor image retention. Compared each color with my 5T and was satisfied and happy that I have no issues. QHD at 120Hz is sooo damn smooth 5T looked like it lagged even while scrolling. Also in India we get a TPU case so I put it on and accidental touches to curved screen are zero.
The phone is tall though, I cannot type using 1 hamd most of the time. Stereo speakers are very good compared to 5T, earpiece gets very loud. Watching HDR videos on YouTube was so much fun. Stereo separation is also very good. Earphones sound as good with a cheap $2 usb - 3.5mm cable.
The camera is the major upgrade and that's what led me to buy this phone. Didn't use it much yesterday and will install a Gcam. (I struggled 2.5 years with Gcam on 5T hoping here it will be smooth).
Phone arrived at 11am. Battery was 51%,did all this charged to 100% used some apps and usual data transfer, google sync and at 28% today morning at 11am with 5hrs of SOT (from 100 to 28).
4G LTE speeds are double of my 5T. I was surprised to get 100Mbps on 4G in India while the maximum it ever went was 40-45 previously.
Now what I don't like :
  1. Wifi speeds at 5Ghz is poor than my 5T. My 5T gets 120Mbps at the same place while 8pro could maximum get 55Mbps. I don't know what's the problem, maybe too many devices connected to 5Ghz causing this. Will test more.
  2. Cannot use color filter lens. Even inside the filters this lens is not used. Looks like it's completely disabled.
  3. Locked my phone to see horizon lighting for notifications. My sister sent me messages on whatsapp. They didn't even get delivered until I turned on the screen, neither worked on Instagram messages. So aggressive sleep? Any way to solve this?

So this is a major problem in all the units of Helios 300 2020 in India.
Fans go in high 3750 rpm on idle and no usage.
  1. It is only when your laptop is plugged-in and charging.
  2. This problem is only there will your battery is between 1% -99%.
  3. At 100% battery the fans automatically go back to 2000rpm
  4. I have tried updating bios, windows update and even re-installed predator sense app.
  5. I have also set the max power to 99% and cooling to passive instead of active. The problem is still there.
  6. Used throttlestop and windows power management to disabled boost. The cpu doest go above 2.6ghz still the fans are in high 3750 and the noise is unbearable on idle
  7. Tried undervolting to -100v in core, catch and igpu. Still, the problem is there. There is no solution till now
Many people brought it from Flipkart sale and till now I know 4 people who have received their laptops, they all have this so we are returning it back.
Please let us know if there is a fix since this is an amazing laptop except for the fan issue on idle.

IFF has submitted comments pursuant to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s Consultation Paper on Roadmap to Promote Broadband Connectivity and Enhanced Broadband Speed. In our comments, we highlighted the need to revamp the policy and regulatory initiatives surrounding the broadband infrastructure in the country to ensure that every citizen has access to the internet irrespective of their geographical location or social and economic status.

Access to Internet is Essential

The right to access the internet has not yet been recognized as a fundamental right. However, in Anuradha Bhasin v. Union of India it was held that the internet is a medium to exercise fundamental rights provided by the Constitution of India. The judgement states that expressing one’s views or conducting one’s business through the internet are protected under Articles 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(g) of the Constitution respectively. However, does the Government have a positive obligation to provide access to the internet?
The National Digital Communications Policy (NDCP), 2018 seeks to unlock the transformative power of digital communications networks - to achieve the goal of digital empowerment and improved well-being of the people of India. To this end the NDCP attempts to outline a set of goals, initiatives, strategies and intended policy outcomes. This policy has three missions, the first of which is “Connect India: Creating Robust Digital Communications Infrastructure”. The aim of this mission is to promote Broadband for All as a tool for socio-economic development, while ensuring service quality and environmental sustainability.
To achieve this, we need to ensure that broadband infrastructure caters not only to needs based on connectivity and geography but also serves to alleviate sections of the society who have traditionally not been able to enjoy the benefits of access to the internet. Focused efforts need to be made by the Authority to ensure that special measures are taken to account for social conditions which have acted as a deterrent to access such as gender, caste or economic status.

Our submissions

The paper touches upon various issues pertaining to broadband access and connectivity. Below we have summarized two of our main submissions.

1. Need for updation of current definition

In our submissions, we highlight the lacuna that exists in the current framing of the definition of the term “broadband” and suggest necessary changes to ensure that it covers all of “Bharat”. Revision of the current definition is needed acutely and moving forward a process of constant revision should be put in place to ensure that the definition keeps pace with developments across the world.
Presently, the definition of broadband talks only about download speed which leaves much to be desired in terms of setting adequate standards which would help India achieve the goals of the NDCP-2018. India has a large digital economy which relies on synchronous digital communication. Upload speeds are vital to economic growth, cultural production and IOT devices. We have noticed that ISPs restrict and throttle upload speeds which impedes innovation and growth. To account for a fuller, complete advancement of the rights of users our recommendations is for broadband speeds to be a definition inclusive of upload speeds as well. Additionally, the definition should include download as well as upload speed to correspond to the dynamic use of the internet in the present scenario wherein the internet is used not only to consume information (download) but also to connect with peers and share information (upload).
Therefore, we suggested that “broadband” can be defined as: “Broadband is a data connection that is able to support interactive services including Internet access and has the capability of providing download and upload speeds which fall into one of the four categories mentioned herein to an individual subscriber from the point of presence (POP) of the service provider intending to provide Broadband service. The four categories of broadband speed are:
  1. Normal - 512 KBp/s to 2 MBp/s download speed , 256 KBp/s to 1 MBp/s upload speed
  2. Good - 2 MBp/s to 20 MBp/s download speed , 1 MBp/s to 10 MBp/s upload speed
  3. Fast - 20 MBp/s to 50 MBp/s download speed , 10 MBp/s to 25 MBp/s upload speed
  4. Superfast - 50 MBp/s download speed and above, 25 MBp/s upload speed and above.

2. Need for development of broadband infrastructure

We also highlight the need to ensure that not only policy but also the accompanying infrastructure is developed in a way that constant updation is made possible. The Authority needs to envisage a way in which the development of infrastructure is done keeping in mind a public and private sector partnership. Therefore, we submitted that the government adopts the “Dig Smart” approach for broadband infrastructure creation and highlight the multiple possibilities for cross-sector infrastructure development and sharing.
The “Dig Smart” approach has been developed by the Fiber To The Home (FTTH) Council in the United States of America in their paper titled ‘FTTH Council Dig Smart: Best Practices for Cities and States Adopting Dig Once Policies’. The Dig Smart policy entails the “governments installing conduit whenever there is underground construction in the public right of way -- whether that construction is for installing new utility equipment, repairs, or road work. The government then has the opportunity to lease that conduit to broadband providers that are interested in deploying fiber networks to the community. This approach benefits the community by facilitating broadband entry and by giving the government an ongoing revenue source. In fact, as (they) will show, these revenues can more than make up for the initial capital expense. While some governments may be hesitant to pay for conduit themselves because of its short-term budget impact, they can recoup that investment over time while also creating significant benefits from the community.”

2020.10.19 14:00 cornish_roots Why Bitcoin is Superior to Gold

There is a constant war being fought between goldbugs, like Peter Schiff, and Bitcoin enthusiasts so I decided to make an outline, with links, comparing and contrasting gold and Bitcoin. I made this in November of 2019 (thus the information therein is based on figures from that time) but, being scatter brained, neglected to post this for the Bitcoin community to see. The yardsticks I used to compare the two assets included the following: shipping/transactions costs, storage costs, censorship factor, settlement time, stock to flow, blockchain vs clearing house, validation, etc. I will also touch on Roosevelt's gold confiscation executive order in 1933, transporting gold during the Spanish Civil War in 1936, and the hypothetical cost for Venezuela to repatriate its gold more recently.
I will provide a brief summary first then follow that with the outline I made. This information can be used as a tool for the Bitcoin community to combat some of the silly rhetoric coming from goldbugs such as Peter Schiff and James Rickards. I would like to make it clear, however, that I am not against gold and think that it performed its role as money very well in a technologically inferior era, namely Victorian times but I think Bitcoin performs the functions of money better than gold does in the current environment.
I have been looking to make a contribution to the Bitcoin community and I hope this is a useful and educational tool for everyone who reads this.
Summary:
Shipping/transaction costs: 100 ounces of gold could be shipped for 315 dollars; the comparable dollar value in Bitcoin could be sent for 35 dollars using a non-segwit address. Using historical precendent, it would cost an estimated $32,997,989 to transport $1 billion in gold using the 3.3% fee that the Soviets charged the Spaniards in 1936; a $1 billion Bitcoin transaction moved for $690 last year by comparison. Please note that the only historic example we can provide for moving enormous sums of gold was when the government of Spain transported gold to Moscow during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. More information on this topic will be found in the notes section.
Storage costs: 100 ounces of gold would require $451 per year to custody while the equivalent value of Bitcoin in dollar terms could be stored for the cost of a Ledger Nano S, $59.99. $1 billion USD value of gold would cost $2,900,000 per year while an Armory set up that is more secure would run you the cost of a laptop, $200-300.
Censorship factor: Gold must pass through a 3rd party whenever it is shipped, whether for a transaction or for personal transportation. Gold will typically have to be declared and a customs duty may be imposed when crossing international borders. The key take-away is gatekeepers (customs) can halt movement of gold thus making transactions difficult. $46,000 of gold was seized in India despite the smugglers hiding it in their rectums.
Settlement time: Shipping gold based on 100 ounces takes anywhere from 3-10 days while Bitcoin transactions clear in roughly 10 minutes depending on network congestion and fee size.
Historic confiscation: Franklin Roosevelt confiscated and debased the paper value of gold in 1933 with Executive Order 6102. Since gold is physical in nature and value dense, it is often stored in custodial vaults like banks and so forth which act as a honeypot for rapacious governments.
Stock to flow: Plan B's stock to flow model has become a favorite on twitter. Stock to flow measures the relationship between the total stock of an asset against the amount that is produced in a given year. Currently gold still has the highest value at 62 while Bitcoin sits at 50 in 2nd place. Bitcoin will overtake gold in 2024 after the next halving.
Blockchain vs clearing house: gold payments historically passed through a 3rd party (clearinghouse) in order to be validated while Bitcoin transactions can be self validated through the use of a node.
Key Takeaway from above- Bitcoin is vastly superior to gold in terms of cost, speed, and censorship resistance. One could theoretically carry around an enormous sum of Bitcoin on a cold card while the equivalent dollar value of gold would require a wheelbarrow...and create an enormous target on the back of the transporter. With the exception of the stock to flow ratio (which will flip in Bitcoin's favor soon), Bitcoin is superior to gold by all metrics covered.

Steel is an alloy of iron with typically a few percent of carbon to improve its strength and fracture resistance compared to iron. Many other additional elements may be present or added. Stainless steels that are corrosion and oxidation resistant need typically an additional 11% chromium. Because of its high tensile strength and low cost, steel is used in buildings, infrastructure, tools, ships, trains, cars, machines, electrical appliances, and weapons. Iron is the base metal of steel and it can take on two crystalline forms (allotropic forms): body centred cubic and face-centred cubic. These forms depend on temperature. In the body-centred cubic arrangement, there is an iron atom in the centre and eight atoms at the vertices of each cubic unit cell; in the face-centred cubic, there is one atom at the centre of each of the six faces of the cubic unit cell and eight atoms at its vertices. It is the interaction of the allotropes of iron with the alloying elements, primarily carbon, that gives steel and cast iron their range of unique properties.
In pure iron, the crystal structure has relatively little resistance to the iron atoms slipping past one another, and so pure iron is quite ductile, or soft and easily formed. In steel, small amounts of carbon, other elements, and inclusions within the iron act as hardening agents that prevent the movement of dislocations.
The carbon in typical steel alloys may contribute up to 2.14% of its weight. Varying the amount of carbon and many other alloying elements, as well as controlling their chemical and physical makeup in the final steel (either as solute elements, or as precipitated phases), slows the movement of those dislocations that make pure iron ductile, and thus controls and enhances its qualities. These qualities include the hardness, quenching behaviour, need for annealing), tempering behaviour), yield strength), and tensile strength of the resulting steel. The increase in steel's strength compared to pure iron is possible only by reducing iron's ductility.
Steel was produced in bloomery furnaces for thousands of years, but its large-scale, industrial use began only after more efficient production methods were devised in the 17th century, with the introduction of the blast furnace and production of crucible steel. This was followed by the open-hearth furnace and then the Bessemer process in England in the mid-19th century. With the invention of the Bessemer process, a new era of mass-produced steel began. Mild steel replaced wrought iron.
Further refinements in the process, such as basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS), largely replaced earlier methods by further lowering the cost of production and increasing the quality of the final product. Today, steel is one of the most common manmade materials in the world, with more than 1.6 billion tons produced annually. Modern steel is generally identified by various grades defined by assorted standards organisations.

Definitions and related materials

The noun steel originates from the Proto-Germanic adjective stahliją or stakhlijan (made of steel), which is related to stahlaz or stahliją (standing firm).[1]
The carbon content of steel is between 0.002% and 2.14% by weight for plain carbon steel (ironcarbon alloys).[2] Too little carbon content leaves (pure) iron quite soft, ductile, and weak. Carbon contents higher than those of steel make a brittle alloy commonly called pig iron. Alloy steel is steel to which other alloying elements have been intentionally added to modify the characteristics of steel. Common alloying elements include: manganese, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, boron, titanium, vanadium, tungsten, cobalt, and niobium.[3] In contrast, cast iron does undergo eutectic reaction. Additional elements, most frequently considered undesirable, are also important in steel: phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, and traces of oxygen, nitrogen, and copper.
Plain carbon-iron alloys with a higher than 2.1% carbon content are known as cast iron. With modern steelmaking techniques such as powder metal forming, it is possible to make very high-carbon (and other alloy material) steels, but such are not common. Cast iron is not malleable even when hot, but it can be formed by casting as it has a lower melting point than steel and good castability properties.[3] Certain compositions of cast iron, while retaining the economies of melting and casting, can be heat treated after casting to make malleable iron or ductile iron objects. Steel is distinguishable from wrought iron (now largely obsolete), which may contain a small amount of carbon but large amounts of slag.

Material properties

Origins and production

Iron is commonly found in the Earth's crust) in the form of an ore, usually an iron oxide, such as magnetite or hematite. Iron is extracted from iron ore by removing the oxygen through its combination with a preferred chemical partner such as carbon which is then lost to the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. This process, known as smelting, was first applied to metals with lower melting points, such as tin, which melts at about 250 °C (482 °F), and copper, which melts at about 1,100 °C (2,010 °F), and the combination, bronze, which has a melting point lower than 1,083 °C (1,981 °F). In comparison, cast iron melts at about 1,375 °C (2,507 °F).[4] Small quantities of iron were smelted in ancient times, in the solid state, by heating the ore in a charcoal fire and then welding the clumps together with a hammer and in the process squeezing out the impurities. With care, the carbon content could be controlled by moving it around in the fire. Unlike copper and tin, liquid or solid iron dissolves carbon quite readily.
All of these temperatures could be reached with ancient methods used since the Bronze Age. Since the oxidation rate of iron increases rapidly beyond 800 °C (1,470 °F), it is important that smelting take place in a low-oxygen environment. Smelting, using carbon to reduce iron oxides, results in an alloy (pig iron) that retains too much carbon to be called steel.[4] The excess carbon and other impurities are removed in a subsequent step.
Other materials are often added to the iron/carbon mixture to produce steel with desired properties. Nickel and manganese in steel add to its tensile strength and make the austenite form of the iron-carbon solution more stable, chromium increases hardness and melting temperature, and vanadium also increases hardness while making it less prone to metal fatigue.[5]
To inhibit corrosion, at least 11% chromium is added to steel so that a hard oxide) forms on the metal surface; this is known as stainless steel. Tungsten slows the formation of cementite, keeping carbon in the iron matrix and allowing martensite to preferentially form at slower quench rates, resulting in high speed steel. On the other hand, sulfur, nitrogen, and phosphorus are considered contaminants that make steel more brittle and are removed from the steel melt during processing.[5]

Properties

The density of steel varies based on the alloying constituents but usually ranges between 7,750 and 8,050 kg/m3 (484 and 503 lb/cu ft), or 7.75 and 8.05 g/cm3 (4.48 and 4.65 oz/cu in).[6]
Even in a narrow range of concentrations of mixtures of carbon and iron that make a steel, a number of different metallurgical structures, with very different properties can form. Understanding such properties is essential to making quality steel. At room temperature, the most stable form of pure iron is the body-centered cubic (BCC) structure called alpha iron or α-iron. It is a fairly soft metal that can dissolve only a small concentration of carbon, no more than 0.005% at 0 °C (32 °F) and 0.021 wt% at 723 °C (1,333 °F). The inclusion of carbon in alpha iron is called ferrite. At 910 °C, pure iron transforms into a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure, called gamma iron or γ-iron. The inclusion of carbon in gamma iron is called austenite. The more open FCC structure of austenite can dissolve considerably more carbon, as much as 2.1%[7] (38 times that of ferrite) carbon at 1,148 °C (2,098 °F), which reflects the upper carbon content of steel, beyond which is cast iron.[8] When carbon moves out of solution with iron, it forms a very hard, but brittle material called cementite (Fe3C).
When steels with exactly 0.8% carbon (known as a eutectoid steel), are cooled, the austenitic phase (FCC) of the mixture attempts to revert to the ferrite phase (BCC). The carbon no longer fits within the FCC austenite structure, resulting in an excess of carbon. One way for carbon to leave the austenite is for it to precipitate out of solution as cementite, leaving behind a surrounding phase of BCC iron called ferrite with a small percentage of carbon in solution. The two, ferrite and cementite, precipitate simultaneously producing a layered structure called pearlite, named for its resemblance to mother of pearl. In a hypereutectoid composition (greater than 0.8% carbon), the carbon will first precipitate out as large inclusions of cementite at the austenite grain boundaries until the percentage of carbon in the grains) has decreased to the eutectoid composition (0.8% carbon), at which point the pearlite structure forms. For steels that have less than 0.8% carbon (hypoeutectoid), ferrite will first form within the grains until the remaining composition rises to 0.8% of carbon, at which point the pearlite structure will form. No large inclusions of cementite will form at the boundaries in hypoeuctoid steel.[9] The above assumes that the cooling process is very slow, allowing enough time for the carbon to migrate.
As the rate of cooling is increased the carbon will have less time to migrate to form carbide at the grain boundaries but will have increasingly large amounts of pearlite of a finer and finer structure within the grains; hence the carbide is more widely dispersed and acts to prevent slip of defects within those grains, resulting in hardening of the steel. At the very high cooling rates produced by quenching, the carbon has no time to migrate but is locked within the face-centered austenite and forms martensite. Martensite is a highly strained and stressed, supersaturated form of carbon and iron and is exceedingly hard but brittle. Depending on the carbon content, the martensitic phase takes different forms. Below 0.2% carbon, it takes on a ferrite BCC crystal form, but at higher carbon content it takes a body-centered tetragonal (BCT) structure. There is no thermal activation energy for the transformation from austenite to martensite.[clarification needed] Moreover, there is no compositional change so the atoms generally retain their same neighbors.[10]
Martensite has a lower density (it expands during the cooling) than does austenite, so that the transformation between them results in a change of volume. In this case, expansion occurs. Internal stresses from this expansion generally take the form of compression on the crystals of martensite and tension) on the remaining ferrite, with a fair amount of shear on both constituents. If quenching is done improperly, the internal stresses can cause a part to shatter as it cools. At the very least, they cause internal work hardening and other microscopic imperfections. It is common for quench cracks to form when steel is water quenched, although they may not always be visible.[11]

Heat treatment

There are many types of heat treating processes available to steel. The most common are annealing), quenching, and tempering). Heat treatment is effective on compositions above the eutectoid composition (hypereutectoid) of 0.8% carbon. Hypoeutectoid steel does not benefit from heat treatment.
Annealing is the process of heating the steel to a sufficiently high temperature to relieve local internal stresses. It does not create a general softening of the product but only locally relieves strains and stresses locked up within the material. Annealing goes through three phases: recovery), recrystallization), and grain growth. The temperature required to anneal a particular steel depends on the type of annealing to be achieved and the alloying constituents.[12]
Quenching involves heating the steel to create the austenite phase then quenching it in water or oil. This rapid cooling results in a hard but brittle martensitic structure.[10] The steel is then tempered, which is just a specialized type of annealing, to reduce brittleness. In this application the annealing (tempering) process transforms some of the martensite into cementite, or spheroidite and hence it reduces the internal stresses and defects. The result is a more ductile and fracture-resistant steel.[13]

When iron is smelted from its ore, it contains more carbon than is desirable. To become steel, it must be reprocessed to reduce the carbon to the correct amount, at which point other elements can be added. In the past, steel facilities would cast) the raw steel product into ingots which would be stored until use in further refinement processes that resulted in the finished product. In modern facilities, the initial product is close to the final composition and is continuously cast into long slabs, cut and shaped into bars and extrusions and heat-treated to produce a final product. Today, approximately 96% of steel is continuously cast, while only 4% is produced as ingots.[14]
The ingots are then heated in a soaking pit and hot rolled into slabs, billets#Billet), or blooms#Bloom). Slabs are hot or cold rolled into sheet metal or plates. Billets are hot or cold rolled into bars, rods, and wire. Blooms are hot or cold rolled into structural steel, such as I-beams and rails. In modern steel mills these processes often occur in one assembly line, with ore coming in and finished steel products coming out.[15] Sometimes after a steel's final rolling, it is heat treated for strength; however, this is relatively rare.[16]

History of steelmaking

Ancient steel

Steel was known in antiquity and was produced in bloomeries and crucibles.[17][18]
The earliest known production of steel is seen in pieces of ironware excavated from an archaeological site in Anatolia (Kaman-Kalehöyük) and are nearly 4,000 years old, dating from 1800 BC.[19][20] Horace identifies steel weapons such as the falcata in the Iberian Peninsula, while Noric steel was used by the Roman military.[21]
The reputation of Seric iron of South India (wootz steel) grew considerably in the rest of the world.[18] Metal production sites in Sri Lanka employed wind furnaces driven by the monsoon winds, capable of producing high-carbon steel. Large-scale Wootz steel production in Tamilakam using crucibles and carbon sources such as the plant Avāram occurred by the sixth century BC, the pioneering precursor to modern steel production and metallurgy.[17][18]
The Chinese of the Warring States period (403–221 BC) had quench-hardened steel,[22] while Chinese of the Han dynasty (202 BC – 220 AD) created steel by melting together wrought iron with cast iron, gaining an ultimate product of a carbon-intermediate steel by the 1st century AD.[23][24]
There is evidence that carbon steel was made in Western Tanzania by the ancestors of the Haya people as early as 2,000 years ago by a complex process of "pre-heating" allowing temperatures inside a furnace to reach 1300 to 1400 °C.[25][26][27][28][29][30]

Wootz steel and Damascus steel

Evidence of the earliest production of high carbon steel in India are found in Kodumanal in Tamil Nadu, the Golconda area in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, and in the Samanalawewa areas of Sri Lanka.[31] This came to be known as Wootz steel, produced in South India by about sixth century BC and exported globally.[32][33] The steel technology existed prior to 326 BC in the region as they are mentioned in literature of Sangam Tamil, Arabic and Latin as the finest steel in the world exported to the Romans, Egyptian, Chinese and Arab worlds at that time – what they called Seric Iron.[34] A 200 BC Tamil trade guild in Tissamaharama, in the South East of Sri Lanka, brought with them some of the oldest iron and steel artifacts and production processes to the island from the classical period.[35][36][37] The Chinese and locals in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka had also adopted the production methods of creating Wootz steel from the Chera Dynasty Tamils of South India by the 5th century AD.[38][39] In Sri Lanka, this early steel-making method employed a unique wind furnace, driven by the monsoon winds, capable of producing high-carbon steel.[40][41] Since the technology was acquired from the Tamilians from South India,[citation needed] the origin of steel technology in India can be conservatively estimated at 400–500 BC.[32][41]
The manufacture of what came to be called Wootz, or Damascus steel, famous for its durability and ability to hold an edge, may have been taken by the Arabs from Persia, who took it from India. It was originally created from a number of different materials including various trace elements, apparently ultimately from the writings of Zosimos of Panopolis. In 327 BC, Alexander the Great was rewarded by the defeated King Porus, not with gold or silver but with 30 pounds of steel.[42] Recent studies have suggested that carbon nanotubes were included in its structure, which might explain some of its legendary qualities, though given the technology of that time, such qualities were produced by chance rather than by design.[43] Natural wind was used where the soil containing iron was heated by the use of wood. The ancient Sinhalese managed to extract a ton of steel for every 2 tons of soil,[40] a remarkable feat at the time. One such furnace was found in Samanalawewa and archaeologists were able to produce steel as the ancients did.[40][44]
Crucible steel, formed by slowly heating and cooling pure iron and carbon (typically in the form of charcoal) in a crucible, was produced in Merv by the 9th to 10th century AD.[33] In the 11th century, there is evidence of the production of steel in Song China using two techniques: a "berganesque" method that produced inferior, inhomogeneous steel, and a precursor to the modern Bessemer process that used partial decarbonization via repeated forging under a cold blast.[45]

Modern steelmaking

Since the 17th century, the first step in European steel production has been the smelting of iron ore into pig iron in a blast furnace.[46] Originally employing charcoal, modern methods use coke), which has proven more economical.[47][48][49]

Processes starting from bar iron

In these processes pig iron was refined (fined) in a finery forge to produce bar iron, which was then used in steel-making.[46]
The production of steel by the cementation process was described in a treatise published in Prague in 1574 and was in use in Nuremberg from 1601. A similar process for case hardening armor and files was described in a book published in Naples in 1589. The process was introduced to England in about 1614 and used to produce such steel by Sir Basil Brooke) at Coalbrookdale during the 1610s.[50]
The raw material for this process were bars of iron. During the 17th century it was realized that the best steel came from oregrounds iron of a region north of Stockholm, Sweden. This was still the usual raw material source in the 19th century, almost as long as the process was used.[51][52]
Crucible steel is steel that has been melted in a crucible rather than having been forged, with the result that it is more homogeneous. Most previous furnaces could not reach high enough temperatures to melt the steel. The early modern crucible steel industry resulted from the invention of Benjamin Huntsman in the 1740s. Blister steel (made as above) was melted in a crucible or in a furnace, and cast (usually) into ingots.[52][53]

Processes starting from pig iron

The modern era in steelmaking began with the introduction of Henry Bessemer's Bessemer process in 1855, the raw material for which was pig iron.[54] His method let him produce steel in large quantities cheaply, thus mild steel came to be used for most purposes for which wrought iron was formerly used.[55] The Gilchrist-Thomas process (or basic Bessemer process) was an improvement to the Bessemer process, made by lining the converter with a basic) material to remove phosphorus.
Another 19th-century steelmaking process was the Siemens-Martin process, which complemented the Bessemer process.[52] It consisted of co-melting bar iron (or steel scrap) with pig iron.
These methods of steel production were rendered obsolete by the Linz-Donawitz process of basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS), developed in 1952,[56] and other oxygen steel making methods. Basic oxygen steelmaking is superior to previous steelmaking methods because the oxygen pumped into the furnace limited impurities, primarily nitrogen, that previously had entered from the air used,[57] and because, with respect to the open-hearth process, the same quantity of steel from a BOS process is manufactured in one-twelfth the time.[56] Today, electric arc furnaces (EAF) are a common method of reprocessing scrap metal to create new steel. They can also be used for converting pig iron to steel, but they use a lot of electrical energy (about 440 kWh per metric ton), and are thus generally only economical when there is a plentiful supply of cheap electricity.[58]

Many African and South Asian regions continue to experience disastrous flooding. In 2020 over 2 million people in South (Sudan, Algeria, Tunisia), Western (Senegal, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Cape Verde, Mauritania, Ghana), Central (Congo), and Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Uganda), and Assam, India were affected by heavy rain and flooding.
As we can see, cataclysms became global. Floods cover a vast part of the continent. Residents of 13 African countries and parts of South Asia have faced massive flooding. What should people who have lost home and sometimes even their loved ones do? Who can they count on when they need help if there is total consumerism around, a world where “everyone is by itself”?
Today, in an era of global climate change, anyone, regardless of country of living, can become a climate refugee. In order tomorrow not to find ourselves in the crowd of people who have lost everything due to cataclysm, we need to change the format of society today, to a Creative one. We can still build a world in which each person will take care of people around him, and they in turn take care of him. On September 4, a state of emergency was declared in Sudan which lasted for three months. Over 100 people died, more than 100,000 houses were destroyed by nature.
Torrential rain was pouring down nonstop for several weeks. The water level in the Blue Nile has reached a record high of 17.58 m! The banks of White Nile, in Northern Sudan, were flooded. More than 830,000 residents were evacuated to a safer place and the numbers continue to increase.

The people of Algeria were affected by severe flooding. Unfortunately, there were casualties. More than 840 houses were flooded.
On September 7-8, a storm struck the northern parts of the country, bringing heavy rains. On September 8, 63mm of precipitation fell in the Baraki district within 24 hours. Drivers trapped by water were saved. The vehicle movement was interrupted in five municipalities.

Three Phase Induction Motor – It has two major components, Stator and Rotor. The stator is the stationary part whereas the Rotor is the rotating part. The load is coupled to the rotor shaft of the motor. Three-phase armature winding is wound on the stator. When balanced three-phase current flows through this winding, a constant amplitude rotating magnetic field is created in the air gap. This armature winding is connected to the 3 phase power supply and carried the load current.
Based on the rotor construction, it can be of two types: Squirrel Cage Rotor and Wound Rotor. On this ground, Induction Motor is also classified as:
· Squirrel Cage Induction Motor
· Wound Rotor or Slip Ring Induction Motor

Electrical faults in three-phase Induction Motor
Single Phasing Fault: Single phasing fault occurs when any one phase of the supply voltage is getting lost because three phases of the voltage supply are must require for the normal working of a three-phase induction motor. Due to this fault, the motor could be burned or heat up.
Reverse Phase Sequencing Fault: Reverse phase sequencing fault occurs when any one phase of the three-phase voltage supply is reversed means the phase order of supply voltages is swapped. Due to this fault, the direction of rotation of the motor has changed.
Under or Over Supply Voltages Fault: This fault occurs when supply voltages are under or over the specified limit. The limit of three-phase ac supply voltages is 380 to 440 so when supply voltages have crossed this limit then the motor could be burned or heart up.
Over Load Fault: This fault occurs when the motor is overloaded means the higher load is connected at the output side of the motor and due to this load motor could be heating up or excessive vibration.
Earth Fault: Earth fault occurs when anyone phase of supply voltages is connected to the housing of the motor then the motor is totally shorted. In this condition when anyone will touch this motor then he will feel the heavy shock beside this, the motor would take over current that could be dangerous for induction motor.
Inter Turn Short Circuit Fault: Inter turns short circuit fault is such type of fault when two turns of the same phase or different phases are short-circuited. During this fault, the motor could be totally damaged, or coils of that specific phase could be damaged.
Crawling Fault: Crawling fault is basically an electromechanical fault in a three-phase induction motor. This fault occurs when the motor is fully loaded with full supply voltages then it does accelerate but it runs nearly one-seventh of its synchronous speed. This specific phenomenon of induction motor is called crawling.
Mechanical faults in three-phase Induction Motor
Mechanical Faults: Mechanical faults are such types of faults which are generally occurred in the internal housing of a three-phase induction motor. These faults are further sub dived into three types such as,
Broken Rotor Bar Fault: The squirrel cage induction motor consists of rotor bars and a shorted end ring. If these bars are damaged or partially cracked, then this type of fault is called a rotor broken bar fault. There are so many reasons for occurring this fault, but it has mainly observed that this fault is occurred due to manufacturer defect. Because during the brazing process non-uniform metallurgical stress may occur in rotor bars which may lead the rotor bars failure during the rotation of the rotor
Rotor Mass Unbalance Fault: If we concentrate on the construction of the induction motor then we can easily know that the rotor of the induction motor is placed inside the stator bore and it rotates coaxially with the stator. In heavy motors, it is centrally aligned with the stator and its axis of rotation is also the same as the geometrical axis of the stator. So the air gap between the inner of the stator and the outer of the rotor is the same. Similarly, if this air gap is not the same then the situation which is referred to eccentricity would occur. In this eccentricity situation, the rotor fault would occur which is called rotor unbalanced fault.
Bearing Fault: In three-phase induction motor two sets of bearings are installed inside of motor housing, for supporting the motor shaft. The main purposes of these bearings are, to rotate the motor shaft freely and reduce the fiction. They consist of an outer and inner ring which is called races and a set of rolling elements which is called balls. The balls are fixed in an inner and outer side of the ring and they reduce the friction of the shaft. The fiction could be further reduced by the lubrication of these balls. Sometimes the balls, outer or inner ring of the bearing are damaged due to any physical problem then the fault occurs. This fault is called bearing fault and due to this fault, the motor totally jammed or struck.
Environmental faults in three-phase Induction Motor
Environmental Fault: In three-phase induction motor different faults could be occurred simultaneously and, in these faults, the environmental fault is also so much important. Induction motor surrounding environments such as ambient temperature and moisture etc. affect the performance of the induction motor. These factors reduce the performance of the induction motor. Besides this, the vibration in the induction motor that could be due to any reason such as, not properly installed also affects the performance of the induction motor. So during the installation of three-phase induction, this factor should be kept in mind.
Motor specifications are key to matching load and operating conditions with motor protection and efficiency. Nameplate provides important information relevant to its selection and application. Manufactured AC motors generally are hp-rated / Kw rated. Base speed is the nameplate speed given in rev/min (rpm) at which the motor develops the rated horsepower at the rated voltage and frequency. The service factor is a multiplier that may be applied to the rated power to allow a motor to be operated at higher than its rated hp. AC motor efficiency is expressed as a percentage. It is an indication of how much of the input electrical energy is converted to output mechanical energy.
All induction motor inspection and testing are done against the approved drawings, purchase order specifications, purchasers or company standards, and within the practices and rules of the country, state or province, and any government decrees, laws, ordinance, or regulation as may apply.
The applicable codes and specifications for an induction motor that is under the construction process are:
· Design code and Standard
· Purchase order specification
· Purchaser's standards
· Approved drawings
The applicable codes and standards may be based on any international standards. This content is general and can be useful for all recognized standards. Ref. some of IS Standards as:

Third-Party Inspection Induction Motor - Material Inspection
The review includes checks on:

Third-Party Inspection Induction Motor Construction:
The inspection scope is determined in the Inspection and Test Plan. Some purchasers prefer to have stringent controls and assign the TPI for more “hold or witness points” for inspection and test activities, and some others prefer less “hold or witness points” and assign the TPI much more work in the “review document.” Inspection and Test Plan - The IEC, ISO, IS standard requirements normally are applied for inspection and test plan of induction motor in the manufacturing shop.

· Tightness/torque of terminals
· Degree of protection
Third-Party Inspection -Induction Motor - General Arrangement Check
The inspector checks that all instruments, compartments, control switches etc. are correctly rated and are correctly located, with specified labeling. The inspection is carried out in accordance of approved drawings.
Third-Party Inspection Induction Motor - Winding Resistance Test
Induction motor resistance between terminals of each winding is measured by means of a double bridge method. The test would be acceptable if the imbalance value is within + or - 3%.
Third-Party Inspection Induction Motor - No Load Test
Each phase current and input power are measured in operating under rated frequency, rated voltage, and no load. The test would be acceptable if the Imbalance value of each phase current is within + or minus 5% of the mean value.
Third-Party Inspection Induction Motor - Locked Rotor Test
While locking the rotor, the voltage, current, and input power are measured under the rated frequency and the rated current. The test would be acceptable if the measured values are in specified ranges.
Third-Party Inspection Induction Motor - Low-Frequency Locked Rotor Test
While locking the rotor, the voltage, current, and input power are measured under half-rated frequency and approximately rated current. The test would be acceptable if the measured values are in the specified ranges.
Third-Party Inspection Induction Motor - Determination of Characteristics
The following characteristics are calculated by the induction motor manufacturer and are reviewed by a third-party inspector.
· Current, efficiency, power factor, and slip
· Maximum output power
· Maximum torque
· Starting current
· Starting torque
The obtained values from the calculation would be acceptable if they are in the range of specified values.
Third-Party Inspection Induction Motor - Temperature Rise Test
The temperature rise is measured for the following parts operating for a rated time by means of equivalent load method.
· Stator winding
· Stator core
· Bearing (Coupling side and free side)
· Centre of frame
· Inlet air
· Outlet air
The test would be acceptable if the measured values are in the specified ranges.
Induction Motor - Resistance Test
Induction Motor Insulation resistance is measured between winding and earth (using 1000V Megger) and between Accessories circuit and earth (using 500V Megger). The test would be acceptable if the measured value between winding and earth is over 10 Mega-ohm and between the Accessories circuit and earth is Over 1 Mega-ohm at the normal temperature.
Induction Motor - Dielectric Test
It is necessary to confirm that the voltage provided in the applied specification is withstood between stator winding and earth. The test would be acceptable if withstood without any damage.
Induction Motor - Vibration Test
Induction motor vibration is measured in operating the motor at no load condition with rated voltage and frequency. The location of vibration measurement is at both bearing housings. Measuring directions are in horizontal, axial, and vertical positions. The test would be acceptable if measured values are within the specified values.
Induction Motor - Noise Test
Induction motor noise is measured in the motor at no load condition with rated voltage and frequency. The 4 points at every 90 degrees are measured, where the height of the points is shaft height for horizontal motor and one-half of motor height for the vertical motor. The test would be acceptable if measured values are within the specified values.
Induction Motor - Visual Inspection
The induction motor is visually inspected for outside views such as rust, scratch, and bruise, coasting color and finish, description on the nameplate, mounting direction of the terminal box, and Protection type of frame.
Induction Motor - Dimensional Inspection
The induction motor is dimensionally controlled for shaft end diameter, shaft length, key and keyway, the pitch of bolt holes including bolt holes, the height of the shaft center, and principal outer dimensions. The test would be acceptable if measured values confirm drawing values.
Induction Motor - Packing, Marking, and Shipping
The following points are checked by the third-party inspector for packing inspection:
Verify that the packing materials conform to specifications and accepted practice for the mode of transport
· Verify protection against humidity, abrasion, distortion, and other damage.
· Verify shipping marks to marking instructions and records.
· Verify handling marks.
In general, it is good to conduct complete engineering tests on new designs to evaluate all motor performance parameters and commercial or routine tests on duplicate designs.
Routine Test - Testing usually performed by the vendor to ensure the motor operates to accepted specifications. Commonly called “commercial test” by most vendors.
Complete Test - More extensive testing which usually includes a full load heat run test, efficiency, power factor, full load and locked rotor currents, breakdown torque and percent slip, stator and bearing temperature rises, speed-torque characteristics etc.
Optional Test - Special testing specified by the customer such as surge comparison, stator winding immersion, dielectric absorption ratio, bearing housing natural frequency test, coast down test etc.
Observed Testing - The vendor will notify the customer about the date of inspection or testing; however, the test or inspection shall be performed as scheduled, and if the customer is not present, the vendor will continue so as not to impact the production schedule.
Witnessing - Testing or inspection that places a hold on the production schedule and that the test or inspection will not be carried out until the customer is present. Requires a successful pretest of the motor in most cases.
Inspection or Hold Points - A point specified by the customer to ensure various stages of the motor production meet their specifications. Such as rotor balancing, surge comparison testing, an inspection of the stator before vacuum pressure impregnation (VPI), or welding before final assembly.

“My story starts with bullying. I was not a perfect guy nor an average guy in my class. I belong to a single-parent family that is solely run by my mother since I was 4 years old. As a single child, I had to spend my maximum time in an empty room because my mother used to work at that time and I was too young and not allowed to go outside that house. My mother also used to teach me after coming back from work. She was the only person in my life who believed in me.”, says Lovy Singh Bhatia.
As Lovy Singh Bhatia grew up, his class mates and college mates used to bully him just for fun but that impact Lovy’s life very hard.“Ragging gave me a dent on my brain which was hard to remove. I spend my 2 years of life in a hostel in which my roommates and other students used to comes to me anytime, like at the midnight, and try to scare me or beat me. After that ragging part, my mind was working like an abnormal guy because in my mind I always think that I am going to bully the next day also and my mind stops working. My mother was also losing hope on me and thinking that her child had a problem. In that empty room, no one was there to help me or listen to my problem. I was not telling my mother about those ragging because my mother was the only person who earns for us and if I transfer my problem to her, she would also get in tension and would not able to give her best in her job.”, says Lovy Singh Bhatia.

Penning his thoughts on paper and rapping provided a good vent to Lovy’s emotions. “From 6th class, I made a best friend whose name was 'Rapping' ”says Lovy Singh Bhatia.
Lovy Singh used to write all his emotions on a paper to feel relaxed. Rapping gave him confidence and Lovy Singh Bhatia became an expert Dancer by the time he was in class 9th.
Rubik’s Cube was another turning point in Lovy Singh Bhatia’s life in mid of the 11th class.“My life took a positive turn because I got a Rubik's Cube (6 side color box). Rubik's cube and rapping were like the core of my heart, I start playing with my cube and loved to solve it again and again. I was also a 1st runner up in the school nation Rubik's cube competition 2016.”, says Lovy.
People started thinking that Lovy is a smart guy and start asking him how he solves this cube in just 15-20 seconds.
“I liked that thing that people are coming to me to get advice and knowledge. Then I planned to make myself different from others and make my own personality rather than copying anyone, I start changing my personality, start doing meditation, and giving time to myself.”, says Lovy.
“My mother also feels that I am doing a good thing in my life and she was also proud of me, which was bigger than anything in my life. When I entered my college life, I start posting pictures on Instagram and at that moment Instagram was not at hype, but people were engaging with that app.”, says Lovy.
He started getting a good response and people start following him. Lovy bought a DSLR for the shoot and started clicking high-quality photographs.
After some time, a brand approached Lovy for a collaboration. Soon, Lovy was getting more offers for collaboration as a part of influencing. Lovy started approaching brands from outside India like - USA, Canada, Europe, etc.

Besides real estate, tourism, hospitality, and retail, another industry that has been suffering from the brunt of COVID-19 lockdowns is construction and development. Ongoing projects were stalled due to the nationwide lockdown. As the situation developed, many workers returned to their hometowns as they feared for their safety and livelihood. As lockdowns lift slowly, the ramifications are still becoming clear. By some estimates, 12.2 crores people may have lost their jobs, a huge section of which hail from the construction sector, one of the biggest job creators in the market.
The good news is, the lockdown is being lifted in many parts of the country in a phased manner. With stimulus packages announced and government spending ramping up, economic activity will also look to kick on. The hope is that the industry will regain its workforce and informal labour. According to a report by the Economic Times, 70% of highway projects have already been resumed in Delhi, and metro projects too are being opened in various parts of the country like Pune, Chennai, Kanpur, Delhi, and Kolkata. That said, due to labour shortage, material unavailability, and transportation issues, it could take a while before all the projects are back on track.
Here are some suggestions to restore the pace of development across India’s ambitious metro projects.
Take lessons from the past
We should take effective lessons from the success of previous projects to ensure that the work is completed on time and without much hassle. For example, the Nagpur Metro construction project was one of the fastest-completed projects in the history of the nation. With proper incorporation of advanced technologies like BIM and well-planned utilization of sustainable energy sources, the project is referred to as the greenest metro in India, apart from being acknowledged for its pace and efficiency.
According to a report by Nation Next, the project took only 27 months from the date of inception to the completion of trial runs, which is a record in itself. Great leadership, proper communication between all the stakeholders, and constant tracking and monitoring led to the success of the Nagpur Metro project. We should refer to such shining examples to deal with future projects, especially during such difficult times.
Ensure proper hygiene
With the lockdown getting lifted, we need to be careful about the safety of the workers on site. This is both a moral and strategic imperative. Any spread of infection will impact not only the health of the workers but could also shut down or quarantine the site. We MUST take all necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of the workers. Soaps, sanitizers, masks, and face shields should be provided to the workers, especially if their work involves meeting other people and working alongside them. Apart from supplying masks and sanitizers, we could go the extra mile to provide proper food, sanitation, and hygienic working conditions to the workers to prevent them from falling sick.
Social distancing, no matter how difficult it may seem, should be maintained at all costs while working. The companies must take the time to create awareness through education among all the workers regarding the precautionary measures that each worker needs to take to stay safe.
Technology integration is a must
The success of the Nagpur Metro project can be attributed to the integration of technologies like 5D BIM, which enhanced the resource efficiency, speed, and overall quality of the project. The clash-detection capabilities of BIM can become a massive contributor to saving time in such large and complex projects. In ongoing and future projects, the developers should make the most of such technologies like 3D visualizations, 4D progress monitoring, BIM modeling services to ensure successful completion within the deadlines. Integrating mobile apps into the operating processes will help increase the accessibility to plans and information on and off-site.
With more incorporation of high-end technologies on the construction site, the load on the engineers could be lessened, thus helping them increase their focus on providing innovative suggestions and solutions to solve pressing problems. Technology will also ensure seamless communication and the minimum loss of information, besides helping in mitigating potential risks.
Focus on post-construction evaluation
At the end of each phase of the project, a proper evaluation model could be put in place to identify potential issues to learn from. This will allow us to take necessary corrective actions in time for future phases. For instance, accurate and complete as-built BIM models can give the engineers valuable insight into the various components of the project. Mad eyes introduction: Burke is the eldest son of a construction worker who grew up playing amongst designs, various machines, and tools. By the time he was 20, he had already acquired local fame for his skills. Hired by a married couple, Burke arrived at Oletus Manor when it was still desolate, rundown and was responsible for most of the architectural designs. As per the wishes of his employer, he led his team of workers and expanded Oletus Manor. In his own time, he added his own touch to the manor, his devices, turning the manor into Burke's secret laboratory. It is said that even up until that unfortunate incident this crazy architect was still planning the addition of new devices.

This analysis will include: a dissection of Burke's deductions in history, a brief history of the development of prostheses, revisiting the abandoned setting of the manor, whiskey and pressure gauges.
Design:
Burke's design is mechanical, and slightly reminiscent of steampunk. Despite how unrealistic and stylized his design may appear to be, it actually holds some significant footing in reality. I'll discuss it in points
  1. His prosthesis -
Burke's right hand and left leg have both been replaced with mechanical parts - More commonly referred to as a prosthesis. It's never explained how he lost these limbs - we do however know that the area where he lives has poachers and dangerous traps so it's possible one of these could have contributed to it, but since it's never stated it's also possible he could have purposefully chosen to replace them as he aged. Regardless as to why his prosthetics appear to be fairly rudimentary. Currently there exists certain prosthetics which can sense electrical impulses in the remaining muscles around it and based off of where the impulse is it can move the prosthetic in a certain way. Considering this technology is fairly recent to the current day Burke's prosthesis is most likely a body powered device which relies on the coordinated movements of the user’s own residual and healthy limbs to drive. To be fair the movement of his fingers do appear to be far more coordinated than a body power device would allow but considering he is a mechanical genius I think we can suspend our disbelief a little. In fact most historical prostheses used residual limbs and specific movements to operate most efficiently.

The Civil War may have helped spawn the first major explosion of the United States’ prosthetic device industry. About 70 percent of all wounds sustained by Civil War soldiers affected their limbs which often resulted in amputation. The ghastly nature of the condition of many soldiers returning from conflict led to the federal government taking action in the form of its “Great Civil War Benefaction” program. This little-remembered project made a commitment on behalf of the government to provide prosthetic devices to every Civil War soldier who needed one. As such there were numerous manufacturers building devices on government contracts and the need for these synthetic limbs helps spurred innovation. Beginning in 1863, rubber began to find use along with, or instead of, wood and metal, providing a more natural appearance, better resiliency and more flexibility.
The introduction of rubber in leg prosthetic sockets grew in popularity thanks to New York inventor Dubois Parmelee in 1863. His socket attached to the residual limb using atmospheric pressure, and india rubber was used to comfortably adjust to a patient’s residual limb
Therefore, the time point when Burk replaced his prosthesis was most likely around late 1860s. I specify "replaced" because in his deductions when we first meet him it's most likely around the early 1800s so he either had a different form of prosthesis or was in full fit condition.

  1. His console -
Now that I've harped about his prosthetic let's shift our focus to some other identifying aspects. The "keyboard" used to enter data onto his consoles appears to be altered form of a typewriter. Between 1801 and 1808, Italian Pellegrino Turri invented the first typewriter for his blind friend. Later this typewriter was lost, so it is impossible to know its shape and structure today. The first machine known as the typewriter was patented on 23rd June 1868, by printer and journalist Christopher Latham.

The pressure gauge on the Barker weapon belongs to the Bourdon tube pressure gauge, which is the earliest and most commonly used mechanical pressure measuring instrument. French engineer Eugene Bourdon first invented the Bourdon gauge in 1849. The device enabled accurate measurement of much higher pressures than existing measurement devices. Bourdon designed the device for steam locomotive engines in the late 1840s because of the increasing number of horrific accidents involving very high-pressure steam locomotive engines. The accident rate and number of deaths from steam engine explosions dropped significantly within a couple of years of the introduction of the Bourdon gauge.

Bark’s pressure gauge is probably used to directly measure the steam inside his weapon, to prevent it from bursting suddenly. But why does his weapon need to have pressure in the first place? if he's able to control when steam is released, then the force of the steam exiting the weapon would help to increase the speed and force of his attack. You have to remember he has cute little toothpick arms, and a prosthesis doesn't really provide you much grip, so these alterations to his weapon can give him an advantage. Additionally steam is hot, at atmospheric pressure liquid water transitions to steam 212°F (that's 100°C), according to The burn foundation, just one second at 156° F (69°C) can cause third degree burns. Researchers in Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA) found the epidermis (the outer layer of skin), cannot properly perform its protective function against water vapour as high temperature vapor easily penetrates to the second layer of skin easily causing second degree burns.

however under the pressure within Burke's weapon the damage caused gets even worse. It takes about 16.67 bar to crush an egg as seen in this experiment (17 kg converts to 16.67 bar)

  1. Burke's alcohol -
The most common orange-yellow liquor in the UK is whiskey, and because the grain law was abolished at that time, the price of various brewing materials was lowered, and the liquor was cheaper than before.
One of the sources I looked into while researching suggested that Burke may have created his one bottle himself due to the fact that before the 17th century the shapes of wine bottles were mostly blowing by independent craftsmen and after not many wineries created them until much later. But my research into the topic makes me think that the dates simply don't line up. The 1600s was far earlier than when this story takes place, I find it more likely that his bottle could be a gin case bottle: Case gin bottles are square with a more or less distinct taper inwards from the shoulder to the base. This design closely aligns with that of Burke's bottle, in the color of gin it said to have a slightly yellow tint, but in the promotional art for mad eyes we could see that his bottle contains a vividly orange liquid. Could be a decorative flask which would mean that Burke made it or had a friend do so, The only thing which makes me reluctant on this possibility is that most decorative flasks have designs on them, but Burke's appears rather basic. considering that the time frame for the bottle fits that of the case gin bottles it wouldn't be too far of a stretch too assume that this was the bottle he used and he simply filled it with a different liquid. After all his character day notes say that one of his favorite things is vodka which definitely doesn't fit the description of what would be in the bottle.

The surname Burke is derived from the Old English word "burh," which is derived from the Old German word "burg," the common Germanic word for a fortification. It seems likely that the first family to bear this surname would have lived in or near a prehistoric fort situated on a hill.

This name is rather apt considering who Burke is. In a literal sense He's able to construct walls to keep out people he deems as intruders. But on a deeper level he's built a fortification around himself.

To be an architect (a brief exploration into the architecture tendencies of the time):
The Manor was built on speculation (meaning it was built without any intended buyers).
Now we've never seen the entirety of the manner which means that we can only piece together what we know of it from the sections where we explore pieces of the inside and from parts of external view.
What we do know is that around the time the manor was sold for a fairly cheap price, these types of estates were symbols of status which shows that while these people may not have been the most wealthy they did come from a significant social standing.

The background of the manor was originally designed with aspects of the 20th century, but based on many deductions and later official changes, the background in the game can be determined to occur in the 19th century. The 19th century was a period of great popularity of romanticism, and under the influence of it, architectural changes also took place-called romantic architecture. Everything starts with Winston Manor (also known as Oulitis Manor):
In the 20th century in Europe, a young couple bought a huge estate in a remote mountain area at a low price. The reason why this manor was so cheap is because the reputation this manor had was not very good (because of the rumors of the past generations) and because of the bad reputation, there were no neighbors around.
After the couple moved into the manor, they renovated the manor, they enjoy Western mythology, which is why the manor is full of it

Just when everyone thought that this family would live a happy life forever, something that no one wanted to mention happened: 24 years ago, the protagonist ushered in his 12th birthday, which was originally a happy thing. However, on this day, the protagonist experienced the saddest thing in the world-he witnessed the brutal murder of his parents by bandits, and the cause of this tragic case was only: the impromptu killings of the surrounding refugees because of the theft. They deliberately created a cruel crime scene afterwards in an attempt to disrupt the clues.

The owner of the manor that we see first strongly relates to the deross family we see and Burke's deductions. I'll start going over those here.
Mad eyes deduction
  1. Contract - It used to be a proper job.
Damaged Contract: Signed by Dennis DeRoss and Burke Lapadura.
Combining the background story mentioned earlier, after the couple bought the manor, they started looking for an architect who could work to rebuild it. Burke was young and arrogant, and had a certain reputation, not afraid of the ominous rumors that had spread around the manor he decided to take on the opportunity to work there and pursue his design goal. Considering the reputation that the manor had (as noted in the background story), many workers were dissuaded from pursuing employment at the manor. Due to this, it was the once fearless and talented Burke who undertook most of the architectural design work.
  1. Test Ground - Some saw ruins, while I saw "potential".
Archive 1: Attached are architectural plans for symmetrical towers. A rectangular area is marked in red at the center of the building.
Generally speaking, in regards to architectural designs, red and rectangular marks have special meanings
For example, it can be used to reserve a column position (as is seen in this picture)
This means that, for whatever reason, the floor should be reserved during construction. According to the location, the red rectangle on Barker's drawing may refer to the secret room or safe room that is mentioned later in his deductions. In short, the work entrusted to him by the couple gave full play to his talents and gave him free reign of his architectural abilities, this was an enjoyable endeavor for Burke to undertake.
  1. Labor Force - Robots are more reliable than humans.
Archive 2: Archived drawings of a strange humanoid structure. It seems that hundreds of parts need to be made to complete the design.
As mentioned earlier, most of the design tasks in the manor are done by him alone, and there are many bad rumors about the manor (so maybe not many people are willing to work here), and Burke is not the type who likes to communicate with people. In this case, what he thought of was to make his own form of labor that could help him, aka robots. The specific humanoid structure mentioned in this deduction most likely refers to Guard 26 or BonBon, a metal penguin which he is responsible for creating to help him with his tasks.
  1. Strange Kid - I don't like those noisy living creatures. They give me headaches.
Diary 1: Mr. and Mrs. DeRoss made new building requests, and they even bought their own staff. There was also a strange boy in this annoying group who showed great interest in my studio. I have to find a way to keep him away from my treasures.
Even if he is obsessed with architecture, burke is still very sensitive to changes in the world outside of his direct hobbies. From his point of view the child is getting in his way and putting himself into dangerous situations due to his excessive curiosity
The DeRoss couple seem to care for Burke. But Burke, most likely around his twenties at the time and potentially still a child from the perspective of the older DeRoss couple, obviously only wants to work on his own and in solitude.
A popular theory (translated by @mayousailor on Twitter from @sky5memo - link below) is that The staff the DeRoss family brought included the family of the "strange boy" as he is stated to be "among" the group. The 4th deduction of bonbon supports this: "The little rascal’s gone and misplaced some valuable things again, after coming back from his 'true' parents". One interpretation if this is that he's stealing things for his biological family. Despite who his biological family is, we know the child is at the very least the children the DeRoss's to some extent, most likely through adoption.
In bane's character day letter (and in BonBon's 6th deduction) we get to see that bane is connected to Burke though his occupation on the manor as the gamekeeper. In the letter he states:
"You haven’t come out of the laboratory in almost a month, and the Young Miss - who I'll get to later - and Young Master have started to run into the woods."
If the boy is the young master that means that he has to have some status above that of a common worker.
The assumption that the boy was the son of servants, but eventually adopted by Dennis and his wife, makes this make a lot more sense.
By the way, if you use Mad Eyes in the game, turn the screen to the side and you can see that Burke has a pair of very lovely green eyes. he should have been very handsome when he was young (after all, children are preceptive to appearance and a handsome face will likely gain favor with them, who knows? It could have played a role in why the young boy liked him)
  1. Secret Chamber - Is there a safer place than a room you can't find?
Diary 2: That kid is so annoying. Every time I look back, I can always see his clothes or shoes sticking out from the corner. What an idiot.
With more and more people moving in, the manor is gradually approaching its completion, although Burke is still being hired to continue the expansion work. After mulling over the situation, he decided to move much of his work into the secret room, thinking that he would not be discovered by others working there (is there a safer place than a room that can’t be found?" I think my plan is great!). A potential theory for why he decided to move into this room could have just been that he preferred to work on the tasks that he knew he had to complete in solitude - and with the house growing more populated his room provided him a sanctuary.
But one of the many impossibilities of children is that they have an amazing perception. The secret room Burke spent so long constructing and hiding was easily found by the boy. The child would often secretly watch Burke working in this room. Maybe he wanted to be able to play with Burke (after all, his sister was not born yet so he was possibly lonely), and Burke - unlike the other servants - hasn't had much contact with the child, so it is understandable that he'd be curious. Burke's account explains that he can tell that the child's watching him and he says he finds it annoying - however he never actually does anything to stop him from observing his work.
Burke's words and actions are contradictory but help show who he is as a person - he is strict in his tone, but soft in his heart: Although he said that the child is very annoying and stupid, he did not reprimand the boy or drive him away, but silently complained while indulging the boys curiosity.
  1. Number 26 - This is a breakthrough.
Test Record 1: After No. 26 was instructed to take Wooden Box 1, No. 26 stopped moving after taking Wooden Box 1. After No. 26 was instructed to take any numbered Wooden Box except Box 1, No. 26 left the experimental zone after taking the boxes and began to move towards the unnumbered boxes.
Bark’s experiment (No.26) has made new progress. The 26th iteration of his invention is finally somewhat successful and has a certain degree of autonomy, the robot picks up its designated boxes, within proceeds to pick up boxes which aren't even in the testing zone, contributing that it has the ability to carry out actions it's not programmed with. This will be further explained when I do the video on BonBon, but Burke's creation is something he himself has yet to fully comprehend.
  1. Another - I should have seen it coming.
Diary 3: Darn it, humans will reproduce. I should remember that well. My employer was a young couple, and of course, they had children! The only thing to be grateful for was that the brat's attention was completely diverted to "Miss DeRoss", because that gave me time to finish my work. (Optimize secret room)
Time passed, and the boy had his own sister (the child the young couple gave birth to) and everyone's attention was focused on "Miss Delos" - which is the name of the baby. There were no children to bother for a while, and Burke began to optimize his secret room (aka man cave) and guard 26.
  1. Small issue - They will never surprise me anymore.
Test Record 2: After No. 26 was given the command to start, it started playing a voice that was never input. Curse those brats! Miss DeRoss, in particular, should stay away from my Robots! They don't need names like cats and dogs.
Burke continued his experiments. During this time, he was continuing work on Guard 26, his Magnum opus. "Miss Deros" had also grown up with her brother, and had become a new headache for poor Burke. They take to giving names befitting pets to his creations. Most notably when the little girl gives guard 26 the name BonBon, which the robot files in his memory banks. Burke find these names childish and he is seen in some of BonBon's deductions trying to erase this name from his memory bank.
What's even more interesting is how he responds in tweets. Idv Twitter in Japan likes to post character responses to questions and statements posted by fans. Pascal/uranatte (link to his Twitter in description and his koi-fi or you can support is good work and translations if you'd like)

Here mad eye gets defensive about how his name is in reference to his bombs. He seems to act as if he doesn't like guard 26's nickname but he is quick to defend it.

Here Burke is shown slipping up and calling him bonbon himself. He may not like the name but at least in some subconscious part of him it stuck.
Burke's daily life in the old manor was probably like this often, having to deal with kids giving his inventions silly little names. despite his stated distaste for it he never actually does anything significant to stop them and doesn't really start seriously changing BonBon until after the incident (which will be mentioned later) he is a very warm guy but seems to be having a headache from everyone's stupidity 24/7
  1. The mob - Human's stupidity always amazes me.
Target:
Deduction: Diary 4: They took everyone, including the children. I should have set the Robot to guard this place. It's too late, it's far too late.
The story here should correspond to the gangster in the original background story:
24 years ago, the protagonist ushered in his 12th birthday. This was originally a happy thing, but on this day, the protagonist experienced the saddest thing in the world. He witnessed the brutal murder of his parents by bandits, but the cause of this tragic case was only: the impromptu homicide of the surrounding refugees because of the theft, they deliberately created a cruel crime scene afterwards in order to disturb the clues.
Of course, there is a big discrepancy between Burke's deduction and this, for example, in Burke's cannon telling not only was the couple killed, but everyone except himself (supposedly). There are some significant differences between them but what's important is the continuity: That the manor was overrun by a mob and people died.
But the weird thing is that in that historical period, would there be such a big riot in Britain?
A search for riots in Britain around that time shows some potential candidates:
Swing Riots were a widespread uprising in 1830 by agricultural workers in southern and eastern England, in protest at agricultural mechanisation and harsh working conditions. This time period is a few decades before the time suggested by his appearance, but there is a long gap between the end of his deduction story and his time as a hunter, so there is a significant possibility that these riots could be responsible for what happened.
The Bread Riots 1847 to 1867. Resulting in the price of bread rising steeply, and this, in turn, led to a feeling of discontent. Ultimately rioting broke out against shopkeepers and angry citizens. These riots take place later on and are less likely to be the cause of the one faced by Burke and the DeRoss family.
Both of these riots may not be directly related, but the poor working conditions at the time which spurred these riots may have played a role in the one we see with the manor. It is possible the DeRoss family was simply swept up against an angry mob that held destain for those of a higher economic status due to conditions for those in poverty at the time.
(!): It’s Miss Teros and likely the boy that came with the workers.
  1. Sentinel - Ah, such a long wait, but they’ll be back, won’t they?
Archive 3: Archived drawings of a strange humanoid structure. Lots of new parts that look like weapons were added.
(According to the background story that may be changed,) Later the manor received a new owner. The new owner was different from the previous family, but he was willing to take in Burke, who had lost his job and "family". Burke continued to work at the manor, doing some basic reconstruction.
He continued to experiment in the manor while waiting for the family in the past to return here. He blamed himself for their disappearance because he was unable to protect them as he always wanted to do. In the second Bonbon deduction it's revealed that Burke created him in part to help with "babysit" the kids, the 6th deduction shows that he tweaked the bomb function in order to help defend the kids who had a tendency for wandering in the dangerous poacher filled forest.
But BonBon wasn't set to protect when the attack happened, so the family was defenseless. Burke took refuge in his safe room, but for whatever reason (whether it be out of stubbornness, fear, or simply that Burke possibly never informed them of the place) the family faced the threat head on. After this disaster, Burke refused to commit previous mistakes, he added a large number of weapon parts to his machines - new and old. He built them to possess immeasurable firepower, so that even children can be protected. Maybe they will never come back, maybe they will return to the manor tomorrow. With this idea, Bark has been waiting, gradually aging, and making himself look completely different from the past through modification. But if they do have a return, seeing Burke today, could they even recognize that this was once their talented architect, that this was once their "family"
As it turns out Burke's hope isn't entirely misplaced. The name of the father of the DeRoss family is Dennis (as he is referred to), however in other characters deductions there's mention of another character in the family who commonly goes by "Barron DeRoss" and is known to be the owner of the manor. (@sky5memo on Twitter proposes something interesting)

He states that Barron de Ross may actually be the (supposedly) adopted son we read about in Burke's deductions - implying that he never died. The evidence to support this theory can be found in Martha's character day letter to Barron DeRoss where she writes:
"Do not forget the tragedy that happened to your family."
In addition to this the Second Anniversary Pack. Contained within it some pretty interesting information. Contained in the pack is a story titled "Letter to an Older Brother", from the DeRosses' daughter. The title of this letter itself implies that the son eventually became welcomed into the family if he wasn't their child to begin with.
In the letter is this quote (please keep in mind that Pascal translated this from Japanese, but it originally had to have been translated it from Chinese, so it may be a little off):
"Please don't blame yourself for the death of my parents; You loved them even more than I did, didn't you? And I know you tried your hardest to help them, too. The fact that I'm even alive now is proof of that."
This essentially cements the fact that Dennis DeRoss and his wife were killed by the brutal mob depicted in Burke and Bonbon's deductions. The boy viciously fought to protect the daughter which would explain how she survived.
As for Martha's letter, if we assume that Baron DeRoss is actually this adopted servant boy, the statement regarding the tragedy that befell his family makes more sense.
In addition bonbon's 9th deduction reveals that in the mob attacking the manor there were "familiar faces" in the crowd. While this may be referring to the dangerous poachers that had been seen by the family before, it makes more sense that it was the family of the servant boy as it was extremely likely that the mob took place due to issues of economic status and class. In an attack like this, a servant family would be more likely to participate than some poachers.
To summarize this part: we can theorize that the young girl and boy both managed to escape the attack from the mob thanks to courageous actions from the boy. The boy seems to blame himself for the death of the parents and the young girl wants to console him for it stating that he loved them even more than she did. This boy could have grown up to become Barron DeRoss, however this is not 100% certain. There's also the possibility that all the characters who mention Barron DeRoss are referring to the father before the incident took place.
In addition other letters from different characters reveal more information about Barron DeRoss.
Jack for instance notes in his character day letter that his mentor - James - was good friends with Barron DeRoss, however, due to a weakening body, he wasn't able to go meet him in person and thusly sent Jack in his stead.
In addition to The previously mentioned quote from this letter about not forgetting the tragedy that befell the Barron's family- Martha's letter contains more interesting clues. It appears as if she sent the letter regarding a job opportunity that seems to have some sketchy undertones. She essentially asked him to create for her a new identity in exchange for working for him.
The magician's letter reveals that Baron DeRoss decided to get in contact with servias about a “missing gentleman”. Not much is revealed about the context of this.
In Robbie's character letter which is sent from an nun from the orphanage where he attended it is revealed that the Baron is an expert in mental illness (it is possible the mental trauma experienced by his sister due to the mob incident spurred him pursue this field of study, or conversely if the Baron's identity is the father it's possible that he was already an expert in this field). it is also stated that he may intend to donate to the facility - showing that he's a man of wealth.
This is just a simple summary for these character letters, and I will explain more about them should I do videos on their character stories individually, But what they essentially reveal is that the Baron is a powerful man. It's unknown if Burke finds out later in his life that anyone survived the attack, But the last piece of information were given from Burke's perspective is that he's waiting patiently at the manner in hopes that they had survived, an in hopes will one day return.

There's something to be said about recognizing the importance of what's on the inside. Burke never was really fascinated with appearance despite how he probably looked rather attractive in his youth. (Joseph could take a lesson from him) ((and I oop-))

He is 1 of only 3 Difficulty Level 3 Characters, the others being William Ellis and Yidhra.
Now that I'm nearing the end I think I'll propose my answer to one last question - what's his purpose in hunting? If I were to guess I would say that in his eyes his hunting is done to protect the manor. He wasn't invited here to kill people, he may not have been invited here at all, what's known for certain is that he never left, he's always been here. He spent years regretting his decision to watch everything happen in hiding, in this time it's not going to be that way again. Everyone else is invading his sanctuary and this time he's not going to hide. He'll fight to protect his home.
